It has been over 14 years since UK Punk Legends The Adicts have played a live show in Detroit. For many in attendance at their St. Andrews
Hall show this past Tuesday, it was their first time seeing the band perform.
And what a epic performance they were treated to.
The Adicts lineup still includes three of their original
members with Keith “Monkey” Warren on vocals, Pete “Pete Dee” Davison on
guitar, and Michael “Kid Dee” Davison on drums. The lineup is rounded out by Highko Strom
on rhythm guitar and Kiki Kabel on bass.
The band still dons their classic Droogs à la 'A Clockwork
Orange' outfits with vocalist Monkey sporting his cool joker face paint and
outfits that would make Liberace seem tame in comparison.
For the very first song Monkey spread out his
large winged cape with shimmering patterns as he sang "Let's Go".
Playing cards were thrown into the crowd one by one from a deck for the second
song "Joker In The Pack" with crowd members eagerly grasping for one.
And this was only the beginning of many theatrics to take place during the
bands set.
The set was filled with confetti and streamers, beer dumping from a hat, and the tossing of giant inflatable beach balls around the crowd. The band has mastered the craft of putting on a spectacular live show and are people pleasers.
The band's energy on stage was also matched by those in attendance. It's rare nowadays to see people putting away their phones and opting to mosh or crowd surf, but they did just that at this show. The Adicts were more than happy to supply the soundtrack for the evenings uninhibited activities. It was very enjoyable seeing so many people enthusiastically crossing that front barricade. Hopefully Detroit doesn't have to wait so long again for the boys to return.
